QWOP is a physics-based running skill game. You take control of a lone Olympic runner attempting a 100-meter dash. You will make the runner move forward without falling over. You must compete only against yourself to achieve the longest possible distance.
You manage the athlete's legs using only four keys. The Q and W keys directly control the runner's thighs. The O and P keys control the runner's calves. Pressing any key moves two joints simultaneously: one forward and one backward. This requires rhythmic input to create a natural running motion.
The game uses a realistic physics model. The actual movement of the runner's joints is affected by forces. The player must work against these natural forces. You must find the perfect, often strange, sequence of key presses to maintain balance and momentum. One mistake often leads to a slow-motion fall.
The most important strategy is to focus on small steps. Trying to run fast immediately will cause the runner to overextend their legs and fall. You must instead press the keys in a gentle rhythm.
You focus entirely on the challenge of movement. Watch the head; if the head moves forward too fast, you are about to fall.
Controls: Q and W move the thighs. O and P move the calves.
